The Pilates Method is
a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph
Pilates. The program focuses on the core postural muscles which help
keep the body balanced and which are essential to providing support for
the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath
and alignment of the spine, and aim to strengthen the deep torso muscles. "The
Pilates Principles" were designed to condition the entire body:
proper alignment, centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing,
and flowing movement. Thus, Pilates is essential and complementary to
improving one’s dance technique and abilities. Pilates and dance
stress excellence in movement. Therefore, with both disciplines, as we
apply at LABA, there is an emphasis on purity of the form, and perfecting
the execution of each and every movement. |
|
The LaChance Method Pilates which is taught at LABA takes Pilates in its original form and applies it systematically and gradually to young dancers to create fusion of mind and body and help them become the best that they can be. LABA provides mat classes as indicated on the school’s calendar; however, for those wanting private reformer classes for individualized, private training, The LaChance Method brings this instruction to LABA at our in-house Pilates studio.
